Thomas Singer, a regarded silversmith, is known throughout the world for his jewelry work. His overlay pieces incorporate the most traditional of Navajo design - designs that have endured through the years. Many of his pieces consist of Navajo rug patterns and other traditional motifs. He uses sterling silver, gold and turquoise to create artistic expressions of Navajo traditional ways. Mr. Singer became famous in the 60's for inventing the use of turquoise chips and coral chips in silver work. This method of design is referred to as "chip inlay." So successful was the invention, that many Navajo craftsmen copy the method and every Indian jewelry store carries some type of chip inlay. One can easily recognize Thomas' work. He marks his finished pieces with "T. Singer", "THOMAS SINGER", or with "T and a crescent moon." |
